Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in residents of the Centro Médico Nacional. Year 2024

Abstract

Introduction: attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a disorder characterized by the lack of ability to maintain attention, hyperactivity and impulsivity; it appears early in childhood and in some cases persists into adulthood.
Objective: to determine the frequency of symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in residents of the Internal Medicine postgraduate program at the Centro Médico Nacional–Hospital Nacional, in 2024.
Methodology: descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study, with consecutive case sampling. Resident physicians from the Internal Medicine postgraduate program at the Centro Médico Nacional–Hospital Nacional in 2024 were included, and those physicians who did not respond to the questionnaire were excluded. For the diagnosis of ADHD, the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale v.1.1. questionnaire was used.
Results: 87 participants were studied from a population of 90 residents, of which 3 residents who met exclusion criteria were excluded; The age was 27±3 years; 54 (62.1 %) participants were female; 82 (94.25 %) were single and 44 (50.6 %) were found to have ADHD symptoms.
Conclusions: the frequency of ADHD symptoms in medical residents of the Internal Medicine postgraduate program at the Centro Médico Nacional–Hospital Nacional in 2024 was high.
